Spouse programme is for persons who arrive with participants but will not take part in the official scientific programme between 24.-26.6. Spouse program offers possibility to find out the very best version of the City of Kuopio.
There is one programme for each day. You can choose to participate in these programs on the registration form.

 

Wednesday 24th June
CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL VIEWPOINTS IN KUOPIO CITY CENTER (5 hours)

Meeting in hotel and walk to Old Kuopio Museum. The museum consists of eleven old wooden houses which are from 18th and 19th century. The interiors bring back the way how people in Kuopio lived between the late 18th century and the 1930´s. Temporary exhibition represents living of ordinary people in Kuopio between years 1940 -1960 when most of the population of Kuopio lived in old wooden houses in the city area.

Buffet lunch in Museum Café

In the afternoon visit to RIISA – Orthodox Church Museum of Finland which is a nationally and internationally significant specialty museum located in the city of Kuopio. It has its eyes on the future and its roots in the Karelian Orthodox heritage and ancient Byzantine traditions. The museum continues the purpose of the Museum of Antiquities founded in the Valamo Monastery in Russian Carelia in 1911 by preserving, studying and displaying the cultural heritage of the Orthodox Church. Stairway to Sanctity, the permanent exhibition of RIISA is a place where the thousands of years of Byzantine tradition meet the cultural heritage Karelian Orthodox communities, the Orthodox way of life and the cycle of the church year. Visitors can wander around the golden columns of the exhibition halls, moving between different eras and atmospheres.

Walk via old 1880 – 1910 built military barracks area to the market alley of Pikku-Pietari is a hidden treasure of Kuopio, situated in idyllic old stables just a few paces away from the market square. The log building includes a cafe, with its own terrace, charming shops which sell hand-made items and gifts, antiques and rural furniture.

Thursday 25th June
CRUISE ON LAKE KALLAVESJ´ AND VISIT TO ALAHOVI MANOR (5 hours)

Start at 10.30

Guide will meet the group in hotel at 10.30. Walk from hotel to harbor. Embarkation on m/s Ukko.  The vessel departs at 12.00. During the cruise three-course lunch is served. Arrival to Alahovi  Berry Wine Farm on the island of Vaajasalo.  In the winery the production of berry wine is presented, wine and berry liqueur tasted and in wine shop the products are also for sale. In the yard is also a small petting zoo. The ship will depart from Alahovi at 15.30 and arrive to the harbour at 16.00. After that the guide leads the group back to hotel.
